About the scientific machine learning research role

• Survey and test current methods in scientific machine learning, symbolic regression, physics-informed AI and AI-assisted scientific discovery
• Develop new ways to discover governing equations from data when observations are partial and boundary conditions are uncertain
• Advance algorithms for interpretable model discovery, extrapolation, hidden-state inference and multi-physics equation discovery
• Benchmark emerging AI technologies and help set the technical direction for future features
• Work with simulation experts, applied mathematicians and product teams across Bosch businesses such as home appliances, HVAC, mobility and power tools
• Where it fits, publish papers and file patents

What Bosch is looking for

• Strong Python for scientific computing and software development (the posting calls this non-negotiable)
• Real understanding of computational mechanics and numerical methods, including finite element, finite volume and finite difference methods, not only experience of running tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL or OpenFOAM
• Hands-on work in scientific ML: symbolic and sparse regression, physics-informed ML, operator learning or system identification
• Knowledge of ODEs, PDEs, linear algebra, optimisation and dynamical systems, plus NumPy, SciPy, SymPy and PyTorch
• Comfort with Git, HPC or cloud computing, and good written and spoken English

Nice to have

• Nonlinear or Bayesian optimisation and evolutionary algorithms
• Familiarity with large language models and AI agents
• Reinforcement learning experience
