Job Description

Lund University’s Chemical Biology & Therapies lab is hiring a postdoc in the synthesis of conductive polymers for bioelectronic therapies. The project designs EDOT-based monomers and self-doped PEDOT-type polymers that can form injectable conductive structures in the body, including polymers made by visible-light photopolymerisation, and tests them in vivo for localised gene electrotherapy.

About the conductive polymer synthesis project

  • Synthesise self-assembling conductive polymers and molecules for molecular electronics
  • Design new EDOT oligomers and functionalised derivatives, including modified ionic side chains and photoactive EDOT trimers
  • Purify and characterise compounds to link structure to solubility, polymerisation, aggregation and conductivity
  • Develop monomers that polymerise under biologically compatible conditions
  • Implant polymer constructs in vivo and evaluate them for localised gene electrotherapy

How applicants are assessed

Lund says assessment will rest mainly on scientific merit and potential as a researcher, with particular weight on ability in the subject. The lab describes itself as collaborative and interdisciplinary, bringing together materials and medicinal chemistry, in vitro and in vivo biology, and applied physics.

What Lund University is looking for

  • A PhD in organic chemistry by the time of the appointment decision
  • Extensive hands-on synthesis, purification and characterisation of small organic molecules
  • Practical heterocyclic chemistry and carbon–carbon cross-coupling
  • Experience preparing and implanting conductive polymer constructs in vivo
  • Experience with gene delivery by electroporation and measuring efficiency by flow cytometry

Nice to have

  • A PhD obtained within three years of the deadline
  • Experience spanning synthetic chemistry and in vivo work, especially bioelectronics or localised gene delivery

Pay and location
