Job Description

Karolinska Institutet is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics for translational breast cancer research in Professor Johan Hartman’s group at the Department of Oncology-Pathology. The group studies precision cancer medicine and diagnostics, and the postdoc will analyse genomic, transcriptomic and DNA methylation data from unique patient datasets.

About the bioinformatics and breast cancer role

• Analyse genomic, transcriptomic and methylation data, including somatic mutation and copy-number calling
• Run expression, signature and pathway analyses and integrate multi-omics data with machine learning
• Build and maintain pipelines, including for single-cell and spatial omics data
• Where relevant, analyse clinical and population registry data with biostatistics
• Work in a team of clinicians, bioinformaticians, computer scientists and biologists

The research group

The group uses AI-assisted clinical and molecular pathology, genetic analysis and population-registry statistics to find what limits current breast cancer treatment and to identify biomarkers that could become new diagnostic and therapeutic tools. The postdoc will have access to the group’s patient datasets.

What Karolinska Institutet is looking for

• A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, computer science or a similar quantitative field (completed within three years is an advantage)
• R or Python and comfort on the Linux command line
• Published experience analysing sequencing data (DNA, RNA, methylation)
• Basic knowledge of molecular or cancer biology
• Good communication in English and good data management

Nice to have

• Biostatistics
• Clinical cohort analyses
• Oncology research
• Spatial transcriptomics, single-cell, multi-omics or computational pathology tools
• Resources such as TCGA, COSMIC and dbSNP

Pay and location
