The Subir Chowdhury School of Quality and Reliability at IIT Kharagpur is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a project led by Prof. Indranil Hazra. An autonomous underwater vehicle is a system of many parts, including thrusters, batteries, seals and sensors, that degrade at different rates. Estimating how long the whole vehicle can keep operating safely means combining component reliability models with condition-monitoring data, which is the core of prognostics and health management (PHM).

  • Research on reliability-based RUL estimation for multi-component AUV systems
  • Stochastic and simulation-based modelling of degradation and failure
  • Data-driven and machine-learning methods for fault diagnosis, condition monitoring or RUL prediction

Eligibility

  • A postgraduate degree in basic science, or a graduate or postgraduate degree in a professional course, with selection through a national test (CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship, or GATE) or a national-level exam run by bodies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER or NISER
  • Preferred: exposure to reliability engineering, predictive maintenance, PHM, and stochastic or simulation-based modelling
  • Desirable: machine learning or deep learning for fault diagnosis, condition monitoring or RUL prediction; Python or MATLAB; familiarity with reliability or simulation tools
  • Upper age limit: 28
