Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Uppsala University’s Ångström Laboratory, home of the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre, is hiring a postdoc in halide solid electrolytes. The aim is to understand why halide electrolytes with high lithium-ion conductivity are limited in chemical and electrochemical stability, and to use that knowledge to design new compositions that combine fast ion transport with better stability. The work spans synthesis, structural and electrochemical characterisation, and testing in battery cells.

About the solid electrolyte postdoc
- Relate composition, structure, ionic transport and stability in halide solid electrolytes
- Synthesise new solid electrolytes and study how they degrade and react at interfaces with electrode materials
- Explore new compositions and design strategies to overcome the conductivity-versus-stability trade-off
- Assemble and test battery cells
- Teaching up to 20% of working time is possible, along with supervising doctoral and master’s students
What Uppsala University is looking for
- Documented experience in synthesis and characterisation of inorganic solid-state materials, including X-ray and neutron diffraction and impedance spectroscopy
- Experience handling air- and moisture-sensitive materials under inert atmosphere
- Familiarity with assembly and electrochemical testing of battery cells
- Very good spoken and written English, and good organisation and time management
Nice to have
- Physico-chemical characterisation such as NMR or XPS
- Data analysis tools such as Origin
Pay and location
Uppsala sets the salary individually; the advert gives no figure. The contract is two years, full time, from 1 November 2026. Applications are assessed mainly on ability to do independent research and scientific excellence.

How to prepare for this application
- Show glovebox work: describe solid-state syntheses you did under inert atmosphere and how you handled sensitive samples.
- Diffraction and impedance: give examples of Rietveld refinement and EIS analysis of ionic conductivity.
- Cell testing: mention any all-solid-state or coin-cell assembly and cycling you have done.
- Interfaces: experience studying electrolyte-electrode reactions (for example by XPS) is a plus.
