Job Description

A neuroimaging group in Karolinska Institutet’s Division of Neuro is offering a postdoctoral scholarship in neurodegenerative diseases. The group combines MRI, fMRI, diffusion imaging and PET with computational and data-driven methods, and works with the neurology units at Karolinska University Hospital. The focus is on disease mechanisms, diagnostics and treatments in conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, using clinical and preclinical research, imaging and registry-based studies. KI scholarships are only open to researchers coming from abroad.

About the neuroimaging scholarship

• Contribute to ongoing projects on disease mechanisms, diagnostics and treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders
• Analyse structural MRI, DTI and PET data, including large-scale brain datasets
• Propose new ideas and see research projects through to high-quality manuscripts
• Supervise students and collaborate with other group members and clinical partners

Who can hold a KI postdoc scholarship

KI’s scholarships are for foreign researchers: people living in another country who come to Sweden to do all or part of their postdoctoral training at KI. Anyone resident in Sweden, or who did any part of their academic education at KI or another Swedish institution, cannot be considered. Scholarships can be held for at most two years within the four years after the doctorate.

What Karolinska Institutet is looking for

• A PhD in medicine; an MD background in neurology is preferred
• Experience with statistical techniques and programming in R or other software
• Experience analysing structural MRI, DTI and/or PET images
• Experience or interest in ageing or neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
• A good academic record with publications, and strong written and spoken English

Nice to have

• Motivation, independence and good communication skills

Pay and location

This is a scholarship rather than an employment; the advert does not state the amount. It runs for one year, with a possible extension of one more year.
