Job Description
Stockholm University’s Department of Meteorology (MISU) is hiring a postdoc in marine cloud brightening, a proposed climate intervention that would add sea-salt aerosols to make clouds more reflective and temporarily dampen warming. The interdisciplinary project covers physical, ethical and socio-political aspects of the idea. The postdoc will mainly use global climate models and satellite data to test what natural experiments and simulations can tell us, and to weigh risks and benefits of implementation strategies under different climate scenarios.

About the marine cloud brightening postdoc
- Run global climate model simulations and analyse satellite data on aerosol-cloud interactions
- Evaluate what natural experiments and model simulations can show about deliberate climate intervention
- Survey risks and benefits of possible implementation strategies against different climate scenarios
- Work with philosophers and political scientists in the team, whose questions help shape the simulations
- Take initiative on analysis and help advise a PhD student

- A doctorate in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography or a related field, by the employment decision
- Research skills in the area of the post, plus analytical ability, creativity, initiative and independence
- Excellent written and spoken English
Nice to have
- A doctorate within three years of the deadline (longer in special circumstances)
