Research Engineer (Permanent) in a Zebrafish Cardiovascular Lab at Uppsala University
Job Description
Uppsala University’s Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology is hiring a permanent research engineer for a group studying cardiovascular mechanosensation during development and building genetic tools in zebrafish. The role combines running the lab (inventory, ordering, zebrafish line maintenance) with hands-on research: genotyping, cloning, CRISPR knock-ins, microinjection and confocal imaging, with co-authorship and an independent side project.

About the research engineer role
- Organise the lab: inventories, ordering through management software, and a working space
- Run support experiments such as genotyping PCR, cloning and zebrafish line maintenance, and help with breeding and care
- Generate new zebrafish lines by CRISPR-Cas9 knock-in and transgenesis by microinjection
- Acquire and quantify confocal images of zebrafish embryos, contributing to papers as co-author
- Develop an independent side project with the group leader
The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology has about 400 employees, including 100 PhD students, in six research programmes from cancer precision medicine to vascular biology, working closely with Uppsala University Hospital.
What Uppsala University is looking for
- A master’s in biology, molecular biology, biomedicine or equivalent lab experience
- Documented hands-on research experience, for example a master’s thesis
- Strong organisation, independence and attention to detail
- Fluent English
Nice to have
- Zebrafish line maintenance, microinjection and CRISPR
- Swedish animal welfare and laboratory animal science training for zebrafish
- Live-embryo fluorescence microscopy and Fiji/ImageJ analysis
- Supervising students at the bench
Pay and location
Uppsala sets the salary individually; the advert gives no figure. This is a permanent, full-time post starting by agreement.
