Job Description
Uppsala University’s Department of Earth Sciences is recruiting a PhD student in hydrology focused on uncertainty quantification in modelling groundwater flow and solute transport in fractured rock. The work covers numerical modelling, analysis of uncertainty in predictions, and efficient methods for judging what it means for the long-term safety of geological repositories for radioactive waste, using conditions representative of a Swedish site.

What Uppsala University is looking for
- A master’s in hydrogeology, hydrology, rock mechanics, geophysics, geotechnical or water engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science or a relevant field (or equivalent credits)
- A solid foundation in mathematics and physics
- Experience in numerical modelling or scientific programming

- Subsurface flow and transport, fractured media, uncertainty quantification, statistics or machine learning
Pay and location
