Job Description
The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is inviting applications for faculty positions at the level of Reader (tenure-track), Associate Professor or Professor. The call covers mathematics, the physical sciences, chemical sciences, biology and life sciences, computer science (learning, information and data science) and science education research. It runs for the evaluation period 1 July to 31 December 2026, and applications are reviewed as they arrive.

TIFR expects faculty to lead a strong research programme and to train students in the TIFR Graduate School. Applicants may also propose new research areas related to a department’s work. The call is shared by units across TIFR, including the Mumbai departments, the School of Mathematics, the School of Technology and Computer Science, TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics, the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, ICTS, NCRA, NCBS and TIFR Hyderabad.
What faculty do at TIFR
- Lead an independent research programme of international standard
- Train and supervise students at the TIFR Graduate School
- Contribute to the department’s research directions, including new areas
Eligibility
- A PhD from a recognised institution and an outstanding research record by international standards
- For Reader: an excellent academic record, suitable postdoctoral experience and novel, impactful research; outstanding fresh PhDs may also apply
- For Associate Professor or Professor: proven research leadership and more experience

Pay and duration
