Job Description

Empa’s Laboratory for High Performance Ceramics is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to study charge and ion transport in functional materials. The work combines synthesis and processing of ceramic proton conductors, solid electrolytes and semiconductor photoelectrodes with X-ray and neutron diffraction, impedance spectroscopy, synchrotron and neutron spectroscopy, and building quantitative physical models of charge transport, proton dynamics and electrochemical conversion.

  • A PhD in physics, chemistry or materials science, as an experimentalist
  • Strong background in solid-state electrochemistry and/or semiconductor photoelectrochemistry
  • Interest in condensed matter and physical chemistry theory, shown by publications
  • Strong experimental skills and scientific writing
  • Ability to work with low supervision

Nice to have

  • Electrochemistry, solid-state chemistry, neutron or synchrotron techniques, or spectroscopy
