Job Description

NTU’s Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies (CDPT) and National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) are hiring a Research Fellow / Research Engineer to lead a project on waveguide-integrated SNSPDs. The goal is to integrate superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors with quantum photonic integrated circuits, scale up fabrication, testing and packaging, and build a commercially viable single-photon detection prototype. NTU says the project supports its mission to develop and commercialise quantum computing and networking technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Design PIC components and integrate SNSPDs with photonic integrated circuits
  • Scale up and optimise fabrication and cryogenic testing workflows
  • Characterise detection efficiency, dark count rate, timing jitter and yield
  • Develop cryogenic-compatible packaging and manage process, design and measurement data
  • Run labs with cryostats and optical set-ups safely
  • Take part in the Venture Creation Program and pilot tests with research and industry partners, and contribute to reports, IP disclosures, proposals and papers

What NTU is looking for

  • A PhD in physics, optical/photonic engineering, electronic or semiconductor engineering, information science or a related field
  • Research or industry experience in semiconductor or superconductor nanofabrication, or in cryogenic device design and testing
  • Data acquisition, analysis and instrument-control scripting (Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW)

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with single-photon detection, heterogeneous integration and quantum technology
  • Experience with photonic design and simulation tools such as Lumerical or Ansys
