Job Description

NTU’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is hiring a Research Fellow at LUMINOUS!, its Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays, to set up a single-photon-emission characterisation platform. You will perform electrical, optical and single-photon measurements on quantum optoelectronic devices, including photon-antibunching (g²(0)) and time-resolved measurements, and work on quantum photonics and single-photon technologies for next-generation semiconductor devices. On-demand single-photon sources are a key resource for quantum communication.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, commission, calibrate and optimise a single-photon-emission characterisation platform with ultrafast and time-resolved optics
  • Develop measurement methods: PL, EL, TCSPC, Hanbury Brown–Twiss g²(0), lifetime and quantum-efficiency measurements
  • Study carrier transport, exciton dynamics, antibunching, emission coherence and Purcell enhancement to guide device optimisation
  • Publish and present results, and contribute to grants, reporting, procurement and lab safety
  • Mentor graduate students and junior researchers

What NTU is looking for

  • A PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, applied physics, optical engineering, photonics, physics or a related field
  • Strong hands-on optical and electrical characterisation of semiconductor or optoelectronic devices (PL, EL, spectroscopy, time-resolved)
  • Experience designing, commissioning and running advanced ultrafast optical instruments
  • A strong publication record and good scientific writing
  • The ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams

Nice to have

  • Experience with TCSPC, FLIM, transient absorption, quantum yield and single-photon methods including g²(0) and HBT
  • Knowledge of quantum light sources, quantum dots, colloidal quantum wells, optical cavities or integrated photonics
