Job Description

Photonic is hiring a Quantum Engineer for its Spin–Photon Qubit System Performance team. The job is to drive the company’s T centre qubits in silicon (spin qubits that can emit photons into optical fibre, the basis of Photonic’s networked architecture) to the highest possible quality at scale. You will run fast technical projects on complex, multivariate problems, work with nanofabrication, hardware, software and modelling teams, and turn data and models into system requirements.

At a glance

  • Role: Quantum Engineer
  • Team: Spin–Photon Qubit System Performance
  • Location: British Columbia, Canada (Greater Vancouver area)
  • Base pay: CA$119,000–163,600
  • Visa: Work-permit sponsorship and relocation support available
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)

What you will do

  • Design and run rapid technical projects to improve T centre qubit quality at scale
  • Guide feedback loops with nanofabrication, hardware, software and modelling teams to speed up progress
  • Collect high-quality data efficiently that answers fundamental questions and pushes performance metrics
  • Plan backup options and alternative paths to success
  • Synthesise data and models into actionable system requirements

What Photonic is looking for

  • A master’s or PhD in experimental quantum information, physics, engineering or a related field, with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Exceptional experimental and technical judgement
  • Deep familiarity with at least one qubit platform (ion traps, neutral atoms, defect centres, solid-state spins or superconducting qubits)
  • Experience driving multi-qubit systems at high fidelity
  • Flexibility in a fast-changing R&D setting, creative problem solving, teamwork and strong communication
  • The ability to work in the Greater Vancouver area (sponsorship and relocation are offered)

Pay and location

Photonic gives a base salary range of CA$119,000–163,600 for new hires across Canadian locations; actual pay depends on qualifications and experience, and full-time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Photonic lists stock options, relocation assistance for global talent and comprehensive benefits alongside base pay.

How to apply

Apply through the official Photonic job posting. Photonic’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Read Photonic's published work on T centres and spin–photon interfaces in silicon.
  • Prepare an example where you quickly de-risked a hard experimental problem.
  • Show multi-qubit fidelity results you achieved and how you measured them.
  • Include a cover letter in the same file as your CV, as Photonic asks.
