Job Description

Photonic is hiring a Photonic Test Engineer to develop and run measurement procedures for quantum emitters embedded in photonic circuits, at cryogenic and room temperature. These emitters are the qubits that let Photonic’s chips exchange quantum information over light. You will build high-throughput test plans for large silicon photonic chips, design test stations with the device engineering team, automate measurements and analyse the results.

At a glance

  • Role: Photonic Test Engineer
  • Location: British Columbia, Canada
  • Experience: PhD or master’s plus 3+ years with photonic or quantum devices
  • Base pay: CA$94,200–130,000
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)

What you will do

  • Develop high-throughput test plans to characterise quantum emitters in large active and passive silicon photonic circuits, cryogenic and room temperature
  • Plan new measurement concepts to validate and improve emitter performance, and cut test cycle time
  • Write test procedures and standard operating procedures
  • Define test stations that combine temperature control with optical and electrical subsystems
  • Set automation requirements, run cryogenic tests and write analysis scripts
  • Agree acceptance criteria with test and device engineering, and characterise station repeatability

What Photonic is looking for

  • A PhD or master’s in physics, applied physics, materials science, electrical engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with photonic or quantum devices
  • Hands-on integrated photonics and optics
  • Automated test, data-acquisition and analysis scripts (e.g. Python)
  • The ability to turn research experiments into repeatable engineering processes, plus teamwork, organisation and clear writing

Pay and location

Photonic gives a base salary range of CA$94,200–130,000 for new hires across Canadian locations; actual pay depends on qualifications and experience. Photonic lists stock options, relocation assistance for global talent and comprehensive benefits alongside base pay.

How to apply

Apply through the official Photonic job posting. Photonic’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Bring an automated cryogenic or optical test you built, with throughput numbers.
  • Review how single-photon emitters are characterised (lifetime, linewidth, g²(0), spectral diffusion).
  • Explain how you would design a test station for hundreds of chips.
  • Include your cover letter with your CV.

About Photonic
