Job Description

DTU Electro’s Control, Robotics and Embodied AI (CREA) group is hiring a postdoc for the IC-Soft project to develop and test hierarchical control for soft robots that combines model-based methods, reinforcement learning and neuromorphic computing, including spiking neural networks. Note the closing date is 17 September 2026.

At a glance

  • Post: Postdoc
  • Group: CREA, DTU Electro (IC-Soft project)
  • Duration: 34 months
  • Apply by: 17 September 2026
  • Apply: 17 September 2026 (23:59 Danish time)

What the post involves

  • Design hierarchical control architectures for soft robotic platforms
  • Implement neuro-inspired approaches such as spiking neural networks
  • Validate algorithms in simulation and on real soft robots
  • Integrate control, AI and reinforcement learning components, and publish

Why this post matters

Soft robots are safer around people and adapt to their surroundings, but they are hard to control. Brain-inspired, energy-efficient controllers are a promising answer, and this post offers nearly three years of funded research with real platforms, in a group that spans control engineering, machine learning and embodied AI, with international partners.

What DTU is looking for

  • A Ph.D. in robotics, control, machine learning or a related field
  • Experience with control or reinforcement learning
  • Ability to work on real robotic hardware

Nice to have

  • Experience with spiking neural networks or soft robots

Pay and location

Salary follows the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, with supplements negotiable under DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff; the ad does not give a figure.

How to apply

Apply through the official DTU page. The closing date is 17 September 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Apply online through DTU’s recruitment site with the documents the ad lists (usually a CV, cover letter, degree certificates and, for postdocs, a list of publications).
