LRDE is where India’s radars are designed, from the arrays on fighter aircraft to ground-based surveillance systems. A fellowship here is an apprenticeship in radar and related technologies at the establishment that builds them, and the laboratory accepts a wide list of equivalent degree titles, which matters because electronics degrees are named differently at different universities.

Why this role matters

Radar engineering is not taught deeply in most Indian master’s programmes: it is learned inside organisations that build radars. For an ECE graduate with a good GATE score, this is one of the shortest routes to real signal-processing and antenna work on systems that are actually deployed.

Eligibility

  • A graduate degree in a professional course, B.E. or B.Tech. in first division in Electronics and Communication Engineering or an accepted equivalent, with a valid cut-off GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026
  • OR a postgraduate degree in a professional course, M.E. or M.Tech. in first division at both graduate and postgraduate level in the respective subject
  • LRDE accepts equivalent subjects including Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Technology, Electronics and Communication System Engineering, and Electronics and Electrical Communication
  • Open to Indian citizens

How to prepare for this application

  • Check your degree title against the list: LRDE publishes accepted equivalents, so confirm yours appears before you travel.
  • GATE year matters: scores from 2024, 2025 and 2026 are accepted for the B.E./B.Tech. route, so check yours is still valid.
