Why this role matters
Underwater acoustics is a small field with an outsized effect on naval capability, and almost nobody learns it in a degree programme. Kochi is where India does it. Eligibility
- Computer Science and Engineering: B.E./B.Tech. in first division with a valid GATE qualification, or M.E./M.Tech. in first division at both graduate and postgraduate level
- Mechanical Engineering: B.E./B.Tech. in first division with a valid GATE qualification, or M.E./M.Tech. in first division at both levels
- Chemical Engineering, Rubber Technology, Polymer Technology, Nanotechnology or Materials Science: B.E./B.Tech. in first division with a valid GATE qualification, or M.E./M.Tech. in first division at both levels
- NET or GATE qualification, where prescribed, must be valid on the date of the walk-in interview
- Upper age limit 28 years as on the date of the walk-in interview, relaxable for SC, ST and OBC candidates as per Government of India norms
- Degrees from foreign universities need an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, Delhi
Candidates working in government, public sector undertakings or autonomous bodies must apply through proper channel. NPOL states that the Director’s decision on prescribed qualifications, their equivalence and their relevance to the laboratory is final. A fellowship is not a government job with permanent tenure. These posts are temporary, tied to the project or scheme that funds them, and the advertisements say plainly that they confer no claim to a regular post. What they do give you is paid research time inside a national laboratory, and in many cases a route into a PhD.
