Job Description

BRIC-RGCB Thiruvananthapuram is hiring a Project Research Scientist-I in nanopore sensing for early cervical cancer detection. The role needs hands-on membrane protein purification. Pay is Rs 56,000 a month plus 20% HRA. Apply online by 14 October 2026.

At a glance

  • Position: Project Research Scientist-I (Non-Medical), 1 post (Adv. 10/2026)
  • Where: BRIC-RGCB, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
  • Pay: Rs 56,000 a month + 20% HRA
  • Duration: 1 year at first, or until the project ends, extendable on performance
  • Age limit: Below 35 years on 14 October 2026
  • Apply by: 14 October 2026, online

The project is “An AI-Integrated Ultrasensitive Nanopore Sensing System for Non-invasive Early Detection of Cervical Cancer”, funded by ICMR / MAHA MedTech. You will work in the lab of Dr Mahendran K R, Scientist E-II at RGCB. The ad is dated 1 October 2026.

What the nanopore sensing project scientist at RGCB will do

  • Purify membrane proteins for use as nanopores
  • Use biophysical methods to test how the pores behave
  • Help build a sensitive nanopore sensor that reads cancer markers from non-invasive samples
  • Work alongside the AI and data side of the project

Why this role matters

Cervical cancer is curable when found early, yet screening still misses many women in India. A cheap, sensitive and non-invasive test could change that. Nanopores built from purified membrane proteins are the core of this sensor.

Eligibility

  • Essential: an MSc or equivalent in any branch of life sciences, with 70% marks
  • Essential: at least one year of experience in membrane protein purification, backed by a documented experience certificate
  • Desirable: at least one year of experience with biophysical techniques
  • Age: below 35 years on 14 October 2026, with relaxation as per Government of India norms
  • Indian citizens only

If you work in a government body, apply through proper channel. Use a separate form for each RGCB position you apply for. Forms not in the prescribed format will be rejected. The post ends with the project.

Pay and duration

  • Rs 56,000 a month plus 20% HRA
  • One year at first, or until the project ends, whichever is earlier. It can be extended on performance

How to apply

Apply online through the RGCB temporary positions portal. Register, log in and fill the form for Adv. 10/2026. The last date is 14 October 2026. Shortlisted candidates will get an online selection interview.

How to prepare for this application

  • Get your experience certificate ready. One year of membrane protein purification is essential, with a document to prove it.
  • Explain your purification workflow. Expression system, detergent choice, columns and yield. Expect detailed questions.
  • Read on biological nanopores. Know how a single pore reads molecules through changes in ionic current.
  • Check your marks. The MSc needs 70%. Convert any CGPA as your university advises.
  • Test your setup for the online interview. Use a stable connection and keep your documents on screen.
