What the plant functional genomics research associate will work on

  • Research in plant functional genomics
  • Work on secondary metabolism, the pathways that make specialised plant compounds
  • Study how these pathways are regulated
  • Write up results for SCI journals

Why this role matters

Plants make many medicines, flavours and defence compounds through secondary metabolism. Knowing which genes control these pathways lets scientists raise useful compounds in crops. This post suits a young PhD who wants that skill.

Eligibility

  • Essential: a PhD in life sciences, biotechnology, molecular biology or a related field; or an MTech in biotechnology or bioinformatics with three years of research experience
  • Essential: at least one paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal
  • Essential: you must meet the DST office memorandum DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26 June 2023
  • Desirable: research in functional genomics, secondary metabolism and regulation, with at least two first-author SCI papers. The ad words this as “more than three impact factors”
  • The ad gives no age limit

The post is purely temporary and ends with the scheme. It can be cut short or extended based on your performance. Either side can end it with one month’s notice. Reservation follows Government of India norms.

Pay and duration

  • Rs 58,000 plus HRA. The ad gives the figure without saying per month
  • One year at first, or until the scheme ends, whichever is earlier
