Research divisions at CIMAP

  • Phytochemistry
  • Bioprospection and Product Development
  • Plant Biotechnology
  • Crop Production and Protection
  • Plant Breeding and Genetic Resource Conservation
  • Technology Dissemination and Computational Biology

The six divisions cover a full chain of work. One group breeds and conserves the plants, another grows and protects the crop, a third pulls out the chemistry, a fourth turns a molecule into a product. If you want a PhD that ends in something a farmer or a company can use, this is the shape of it.

Eligibility

  • A master’s degree in science or equivalent
  • A valid national-level fellowship of any funding agency, for example CSIR, ICMR, UGC, DBT, INSPIRE, RGNF or GPAT
  • The fellowship must be valid on the date of joining for the January 2027 session through AcSIR
  • AcSIR’s own stream-wise eligibility rules apply on top. Read the eligibility document on the AcSIR site

Fellowship and duration

Scholars are supported by the national fellowship they hold, so the amount follows that award. The advertisement states no figure of its own. The programme is full-time and starts in January 2027.

How to apply

Apply online on the AcSIR admissions portal and choose CSIR-CIMAP. The advertisement carries a QR code that opens the same portal. Read the division pages on the CIMAP website first and decide which division fits your background, because that choice shapes the whole degree.

How to prepare for this application

  • Check your fellowship is valid at joining. The advertisement ties eligibility to the fellowship being live in January 2027.
  • GPAT counts here. Pharmacy graduates are explicitly in scope, which is unusual among plant-science institutes.
  • Pick one of the six divisions. Phytochemistry and plant breeding are very different days. Name the one you want.
  • Read about CIMAP's released varieties. The institute is known for crop varieties and agro-technologies, and interviews often go there.
  • Apply through AcSIR. CIMAP hosts the work and AcSIR awards the degree and runs the admission.
