Job Description
Linköping University is hiring a postdoc in heterogeneous catalysis in Sweden. You will study reactions of high-boiling liquids run in the vapour phase over solid catalysts. The post is part of the large e-foods project. It pays a starting salary of around SEK 43,000 a month. Apply by 23 November 2026.
At a glance
- Position: Postdoc, ref. LiU-2026-04469, full time
- Group: Catalysis and Self-Assembly group (CATSA) with the Berggren group, Department of Science and Technology (ITN)
- Where: Campus Norrköping, Sweden
- Pay: Starting salary around SEK 43,000 a month, set individually
- Duration: 2 years, can be extended to 3 years in total; start in spring 2027 or by agreement
- Apply: 23 November 2026
What the Linköping catalysis postdoc will do
- Test catalysts and reactions in a reactor with in-line GC and mass spectrometry
- Compare how reaction mechanisms differ in the vapour phase and the liquid phase
- Help design a reactor for high-throughput vapour-phase processing
- Check whether the reactants have high enough vapour pressure and thermal stability
- Make heterogeneous catalysts and characterise them by electron microscopy, spectroscopy, XPS, XRD and BET
- Use isotope labelling to work out mechanisms, and work with computational chemists
Why this role matters
Most industrial catalysis runs in the gas phase, but many useful molecules boil too high to handle that way. This project asks whether they can. e-foods has six postdocs across several groups, so you join a large team. Electron microscopy comes through a link with Stockholm University.
What Linköping University is looking for
- A PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, materials science or a related field by the start date
- Proven expertise in at least one of: heterogeneous catalysis, reaction mechanisms, or design of lab flow reactors. Papers, conference work or courses taught can show this
- Strong self-motivation and a deep interest in basic research
Nice to have
- Expertise in more than one of the three areas above
Pay and location
The ad says the starting salary for postdocs is around SEK 43,000 a month. Salaries are set individually. The contract is full time and temporary, for two years, with a possible extension to three years in total.
How to apply
Apply through the official Linköping University page. The closing date is 23 November 2026. Send, in English: a cover letter of at most one page, a CV with your publications, and your undergraduate and graduate transcripts. The supervisor is Assistant Professor Alexander Holm.

How to prepare for this application
- Keep the letter to one page. The ad sets that limit. Say which of the three skills you bring.
- Show reactor work. Describe any flow or fixed-bed reactor you built or ran, with GC or MS.
- Explain one mechanism you solved. Isotope labelling or in-situ spectroscopy examples fit well.
- Add grades to your CV. The ad asks for average grades and full author lists.
- Read the CATSA group's papers. Our Find a supervisor page lists Linköping researchers.
