What the ceramic coatings scientist does
- Lead research programmes on ceramics, high-temperature materials and coatings (TBC, EBC and corrosion coatings)
- Invent and develop new ceramic compositions and processes for GE Aerospace products
- Build technology roadmaps from feasibility studies, and explain risks and trade-offs to senior leaders

Why this role matters
Modern jet engines run hotter than their metal parts can bear. Ceramic coatings protect those parts and let engines burn fuel more efficiently. Better coatings and repair methods mean longer part life and fewer engine shop visits. This post leads that research from India for GE Aerospace’s global products.
What GE Aerospace is looking for
- PhD in materials science, ceramics, chemistry or a related field (a Master’s with strong research impact may be considered)
- 10+ years of R&D experience in high-temperature ceramic materials and coatings, including TBC/EBC or high-temperature corrosion coatings
- Ability to lead complex, system-level projects and adapt plans to data and risk
- A record of impact through publications, patents, technology transition or externally funded research
- Strong communication with stakeholders at all levels
- Strong attention to safety, quality and disciplined execution
Nice to have
- Deep expertise in EBCs or next-generation TBCs for aerospace, and familiarity with repair and rejuvenation
- Experience with coating process development and scale-up
- Links with academia and partners, and experience maturing technology through TRL and MRL levels
Pay and location
The posting does not state pay. The role is based at the John F. Welch Technology Center in Bengaluru, and relocation help is offered.
How to apply

How to prepare for this application
- Prepare a talk on one coating system you developed: composition, deposition process, testing and failure modes
- Revise TBC and EBC failure mechanisms, such as sintering, CMAS attack, spallation and steam recession
- Be ready to explain how you take a coating from lab coupon to engine test, with TRL and MRL steps
- Bring your patent and publication record, and pick one invention to explain in depth
- Think about how you would set up a three-year roadmap for a coatings team in Bengaluru
