Job Description
Karolinska Institutet seeks a postdoc in single-cell epigenetics to study childhood cancers. You will analyse single-cell DNA methylation data, mainly from paediatric acute myeloid leukaemia. The post is for two years. Apply by 12 November 2026.
At a glance
- Position: Postdoctoral researcher, full time, 2 years with possible extension (ref. STÖD 2-4363/2026)
- Where: Department of Oncology-Pathology, BioClinicum, Solna, Sweden
- Team lead: Sander Lambo, Assistant Professor
- Pay: Individual monthly salary under KI’s RALS and RALS-T agreements; no figure is given
- Start: By agreement
- Apply: 12 November 2026
What the single-cell epigenetics postdoc involves
- Generate, process and analyse single-cell DNA methylation data from paediatric cancers
- Help set up a new method for single-cell DNA methylation at scale
- Manage large sequencing datasets
- Build computational methods to find cell states and shifts between them
- Combine methylation with other data types, and test ideas with lab biologists
- Lead study design, analysis, figures and papers
Why this role matters
Tumours change as they grow, and methylation records part of that history in each cell. Reading it one cell at a time can show how leukaemia evolves and resists treatment. Skills in single-cell data are in demand in academia and biotech.
What Karolinska Institutet is looking for
- A PhD, or a foreign degree equal to a Swedish PhD, by the time of the hiring decision. A PhD in the last three years is an advantage
- Documented single-cell, single-nucleus and/or epigenetic data analysis
- Strong R and/or Python, with large biological datasets
- Alignment, quality control, integration and interpretation of sequencing data
- Good English and teamwork across fields
Nice to have
- Making single-cell sequencing libraries, or other wet-lab work
- Paediatric cancer data, DNA methylation, or epigenetics in development
- Published software packages or tools
- The ad gives priority to people with both wet-lab and computational backgrounds
Pay and location
KI sets salaries individually under its RALS and RALS-T collective agreements. The ad gives no figure. The post is full time for two years, with a possible extension.
How to apply
Apply through the official Karolinska Institutet page. The closing date is 12 November 2026. Apply through the KI Varbi application form in English or Swedish. Upload your PhD certificate, a full CV with your thesis title and defence date, a complete publication list, and a one-page summary of your current work.

How to prepare for this application
- Read recent papers on single-cell methylation methods and on paediatric AML
- Show one pipeline you built for single-cell data, with QC steps
- Mention any wet-lab experience, since mixed profiles get priority
- Keep your one-page work summary specific: question, method, result
- Link to any public code or tools you have released
