Alice & Bob is hiring an Expert Quantum Physicist for its EDA (electronic design automation) research team in Paris, to own the accuracy and reliability of the simulation stack used to design its superconducting cat-qubit chips, from device physics to numerical code.

About the simulation physicist role

  • Own the predictive performance of the simulation stack end to end: accuracy, reliability and efficiency
  • Define what a trustworthy result means across microwave, quantum and numerical simulations, including accuracy, convergence and validation practice
  • Find and remove what holds the stack back, whether speed, robustness or model fidelity
  • Shape the roadmap for simulation tools with experts across the company
  • Validate simulations against measured devices alongside experimentalists, and be the team’s authority on simulation method

Cat qubits store information in two coherent states of a microwave resonator, stabilised by engineered two-photon dissipation. That makes bit-flip errors extremely rare, so the remaining phase-flip errors can be handled with simpler codes, such as a repetition code. Roles at Alice & Bob are built around making that architecture work at scale.

The posting describes a staged hiring process: a screening call, an interview with the hiring manager, a technical session with the team and a technical presentation.

What Alice & Bob is looking for

  • A PhD or equivalent in quantum physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, quantum information or computational physics, and 7+ years of experience since
  • Technical leadership that shaped simulation or modelling practice and fed into device design
  • Deep experience simulating superconducting qubits or similar systems: finite-element tools (such as Ansys HFSS, COMSOL or Palace) and circuit quantisation
  • Command of circuit QED, Hamiltonian modelling, open quantum systems and decoherence, plus microwave engineering for quantum devices
  • Strong scientific software skills in Python, NumPy/SciPy or JAX, and Git, and a record of mentoring senior colleagues

Nice to have

  • HPC or large-scale simulation experience
  • Publications in circuit QED or computational electromagnetics
  • Hands-on experimental research with quantum devices
