The ad says the positions are available now and that selected candidates are encouraged to do a Ph.D. It links to the group homepage for details of the project team.
About the quantum communications posts at IIT Indore
- Research on quantum communication systems within a national consortium
- Work that can draw on communications, resource allocation, networking, AI/ML or optics
- A route into a Ph.D. for the selected candidate
The ad lists the useful background. It does not list duties; the points above follow that background.
Why this role matters
The National Quantum Mission is building secure quantum links across India. Engineers who understand both classical communications and quantum hardware are few. A JRF or SRF in a consortium gives you that mix early.
Eligibility
- JRF: a B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering, Physics, Data Science or AI; or an M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science or a related area
- JRF, desirable: GATE, CSIR-UGC NET (lectureship counts) or another national exam run by DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc or IISER
- SRF: a Ph.D. and/or a Master’s degree in the relevant branch, preferably with a valid GATE score
- Desirable for both: experience in communications, resource allocation, quantum technologies, networking, AI/ML or optics
- Age limit: as per funding agency norms
Only shortlisted candidates are called for interview. No TA/DA is paid. The PI is not responsible for email delays. The committee may limit the number of interview calls if many people apply. The selected candidate must join at once.
Pay and duration
- JRF and SRF pay as per funding agency norms; the ad gives no figure
- Six months to start, extendable; the fellowship can end early with 30 days’ notice if progress is poor
How to apply
Email a detailed CV to Prof. Vimal Bhatia at vbhatia@iiti.ac.in so that it reaches him by 20 October 2026. Use the subject line “Applicant Quantum Communications: JRF” or “Applicant Quantum Communications: SRF”. Read the IIT Indore advertisement (PDF) first. The group’s homepage lists the project team.
Key dates
- Last date to apply: 20 October 2026
- Interview: for shortlisted candidates

How to prepare for this application
- Learn QKD in one page: BB84, decoy states, and how loss and noise limit the secret key rate.
- Bring your comms skills: channel models, detection theory and resource allocation all carry over to quantum links.
- Know the hardware in outline: single-photon detectors, fibre loss and free-space links.
- Show code: a simulation in Python or MATLAB of a quantum channel or a QKD protocol is a strong point.
- Read the group's work: look at Prof. Vimal Bhatia's papers on communications. Use our Find a supervisor page to compare quantum labs.
