Job Description

IIT Indore is hiring a Junior Research Fellow to help build a low-cost lower-limb prosthetic from CFRP and aluminium alloy parts joined by high-speed electromagnetic forming, in an ANRF Advanced Research Grant project led by Dr. Ashish Rajak. The aim is a lightweight, durable prosthetic that amputees in low-resource settings can afford.

Electromagnetic forming uses an intense, very short magnetic pulse to shape or join metal parts in microseconds, without contact or heat. It can bond aluminium to other materials in ways that conventional welding cannot, which makes it attractive for joining carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aluminium in a light, strong prosthetic.

About the JRF role

  • Work on replacing expensive traditional prosthetic fabrication with CFRP-aluminium components joined by high-speed electromagnetic forming and joining
  • Contribute to manufacturing, materials testing and data acquisition for the prosthetic

Desirable knowledge includes manufacturing, materials science, welding, high-speed processes and data acquisition, and candidates with experience in numerical simulation of metal forming or welding are encouraged to apply. Selected candidates may be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme as regular full-time scholars at IIT Indore, per institute norms.

Eligibility

  • First class B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, or Automation, Mechatronics, Production, Industrial or Automobile Engineering
  • GATE qualified in a relevant area
