Job Description
This JRF job in photonic quantum computing is in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. The RASPAC project designs reconfigurable and scalable photonic qubit circuits. Apply online by 15 October 2026.
At a glance
- Post: Junior Research Fellow (JRF), 1 post
- Where: Dept. of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engg., IIT Kharagpur
- Pay: Up to ₹37,000 a month, by qualification and experience
- Duration: 24 months, or until the project ends
- Apply by: 15 October 2026, online
The project is “Reconfigurable and Scalable Photonic Qubit Architecture for Quantum Computing Heterogeneous and Monolithic Approaches (RASPAC)”. The sponsor is the Department of Science and Technology (DST); the advertisement gives the Nano Mission address. The PI is Prof. Shailendra Kumar Varshney. The reference number is IIT/SRIC/R/QRA_SKV/2026/114, dated 1 October 2026.
About the photonic qubit project
- Work on photonic circuits that hold and process qubits
- Compare heterogeneous designs, which join different materials, with monolithic designs on one platform
- Model devices with quantum, photonic and electromagnetic simulations
- Help write papers and project reports
The advertisement gives the project title and the qualifications only. The points above follow from the title and the desirable skills.
Why this role matters
Photonic quantum computers need many qubits on a chip that can be set up again for new tasks. This project works on that problem. A JRF post on it can lead to a PhD in a fast-growing field.
Eligibility
- A postgraduate degree in Basic Science, or a graduate or postgraduate degree in a professional course
- Selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including lectureship) or GATE, or through a national-level exam run by DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER or similar
- Desirable: prior experience in quantum, photonic or electromagnetic simulations
- Upper age limit: 28 years
There is no application fee. The online advertisement page leaves the pay amount blank; the SRIC job list gives “Upto Rs.37000”.
Pay and duration
- Up to ₹37,000 a month (consolidated), depending on qualification and experience
- Tenure: 24 months or until the project ends, whichever is earlier
How to apply
Apply online through the IIT Kharagpur SRIC portal, using the application link for this post. The last date is 15 October 2026. There is no fee.
