Job Description
Neuralink’s Materials Engineering team is hiring an engineer to own the simulation-to-test loop for implant mechanical reliability. The role builds explicit-dynamics finite element models, designs and runs physical tests, calibrates material models against experiments and checks that the brain implant meets impact, fatigue and seal-integrity requirements.
At a glance
- Team: Materials Engineering
- Location: Austin, Texas or South San Francisco, California
- Pay: Listed on the posting (from $113,000 a year)
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What you would do
- Build and validate explicit-dynamics FEA models (LS-DYNA, Abaqus/Explicit) for high-strain-rate impact
- Own the mechanical testing pipeline: fixtures, specimens, servo-hydraulic and drop-tower tests and digital image correlation
- Calibrate material models against experimental data and correlate results with simulation using quantitative metrics
- Work with materials, microfabrication and reliability teams on impact, fatigue and hermetic seal requirements
Why this role matters
An implant in the brain must survive years of use and accidental knocks without failing. Proving that requires tight agreement between simulations and physical tests, which is what this role owns. It is a strong fit for mechanical and materials engineers who want their work to matter for patients.
What Neuralink is looking for
- Experience with explicit-dynamics FEA
- Hands-on mechanical testing and fixture design
- Skill in correlating test data with simulation
Nice to have
- Experience with implantable or biomedical devices
Pay and location
Neuralink lists a pay range on the posting; the lowest figure shown is $113,000 a year, plus equity and benefits.
How to apply
Apply through the official Neuralink job posting. Neuralink’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application
- FEA plus tests: show projects where you closed the loop between the two.
- Explicit dynamics: LS-DYNA or Abaqus/Explicit work is named.
- Metrics: quantitative correlation methods matter.
- Medical devices: reliability work on implants is a plus.
About Neuralink
Neuralink builds implantable brain-computer interfaces, designing everything in-house from custom chips to thin-film electrode arrays and surgical robots. Its first products aim to let people with paralysis control computers and to restore sight. It has sites in Austin, Texas and Fremont and South San Francisco, California.
