Job Description
Argonne’s Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is hiring a postdoctoral appointee to develop high-energy, long-life lithium-sulfur batteries with liquid and solid-state electrolytes, using artificial intelligence. The work covers synthesis and characterisation of sulfur cathodes and host materials, coin and pouch cell testing, sulfide solid electrolytes, and synchrotron X-ray studies of materials and interfaces.

What Argonne is looking for
- A recent PhD in chemistry, chemical or mechanical engineering, materials science or a related field
- Experience using AI or ML to develop battery electrolytes or catalysts
- Expertise in Li-S materials and electrolytes, and sulfur host synthesis
- Sulfide solid electrolyte synthesis and all-solid-state cell testing
- Synchrotron XRD and X-ray spectroscopy, ideally in situ
- Strong electrochemistry (CV, EIS, cycling)
Nice to have
- Interfacial coatings to suppress lithium dendrites
