Job Description

EPFL’s VITA laboratory is hiring a postdoc in generative AI, developing new methods for real-time video generation. The call is open until filled.

At a glance

  • Post: Postdoc in Generative AI for Real-Time Video
  • Where: Laboratory of Visual Intelligence for Transportation (VITA), EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland
  • Pay: on the EPFL scale for this grade; the advert gives no figure

The project

VITA works at the intersection of computer vision, deep learning and human-robot interaction, aiming to change how machines interpret human actions, anticipate intentions and interact with people.

The successful candidate develops new methods for real-time video generation. Real time is the hard constraint: generative video models are usually judged on quality with no limit on compute, and a model that has to produce frames fast enough to interact with a person is a different problem. For a laboratory that cares about transportation and human-robot interaction, that constraint is the point.

What you need

  • A PhD in computer vision, machine learning or a closely related field
  • Experience with generative models, and ideally with video
  • Read the official advertisement for the full requirements

Pay and conditions

EPFL pays doctoral assistants and postdoctoral researchers on published Swiss federal scales, which are among the higher ones in Europe. This advertisement states no figure, so check the scale for your grade and the cost of living in Lausanne before you decide.

How to prepare for this application

  • Real time is the constraint that matters. Show work where latency or compute budget shaped the method.
  • VITA has more than one open postdoc. Read the laboratory's listings and apply to the closest fit.
  • EPFL works in English. Research and teaching at this level run in English, so French is useful but rarely required.
  • Doctoral candidates apply twice. A lab offer at EPFL is normally followed by admission to a doctoral programme, so check the programme's own requirements too.
