Postdoc in Ice Core Chemistry (Solar Activity and Atmospheric Chemistry) at Stockholm University
Job Description
Stockholm University’s Department of Physical Geography is hiring a postdoc in ice core chemistry for a Swedish Research Council project on past solar activity and its effect on atmospheric chemistry. You will work with Holocene ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica, generating and interpreting isotope geochemistry and ion chemistry records, and combining them with climate reanalysis data to develop ice-core proxies for atmospheric chemistry.

About the ice core postdoc
- Sample, measure and analyse ice core material, focusing on isotope geochemistry and ion chemistry
- Work in a dedicated ice core freezer, subsampling and processing core sections
- Help develop the department’s analytical capabilities for ice core chemistry
- Combine proxy records with climate reanalysis data to test new proxy relationships
The department has a long tradition in ice core science and has taken part in many international drilling campaigns. What Stockholm University is looking for
- A doctoral degree (Swedish or equivalent foreign) by the employment decision
Nice to have
- A doctorate within three years of the deadline (longer in special circumstances)
- Experience with ice cores, isotope geochemistry, paleoclimate and data analysis
- Analytical instruments for ice core studies and continuous flow analysis (CFA)
- Freezer or polar fieldwork, data-processing scripts and relevant publications
Pay and location
Stockholm University sets the salary individually; the advert gives no figure. The post is full time for two to three years, starting by agreement.
