Job Description

Uppsala University’s Department of Pharmacy is hiring a postdoc in pharmacometrics to develop platform PKPD modelling approaches for oncology drug development. The project will quantify how tumour size changes over time relate to progression-free and overall survival, and model longitudinal haematological safety endpoints in patients with solid tumours treated with anticancer therapies such as combinations or antibody-drug conjugates. The contact is Prof. Lena Friberg.

At a glance

  • Position: Postdoctoral position (1 post), 2 years, full time (1 November 2026 to 31 October 2028)
  • Where: Department of Pharmacy (IFF), Uppsala
  • Contact: Prof. Lena Friberg, lena.friberg@uu.se
  • Reference: UFV-PA 2026/2501
  • Apply by: 25 September 2026

About the PKPD modelling postdoc

  • Develop platform approaches linking longitudinal tumour size dynamics to survival (PFS/OS) in selected tumours
  • Assess the effect of the therapeutic agent and other critical covariates
  • Build in methods to mitigate immortal time bias
  • Explore joint modelling of longitudinal haematological safety endpoints
  • Produce predictive models that support study design and benefit-risk assessment in oncology drug development

About the Department of Pharmacy

Uppsala’s Department of Pharmacy (IFF) has about 150 employees. Its core areas include computational modelling and simulation, PKPD, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods and biological medicines, with pharmacometrics among its focus areas. Apply through Uppsala University’s recruitment system.

What Uppsala University is looking for

  • A doctoral degree in PKPD modelling, pharmacometrics or a related field, obtained within three years of the deadline (longer in special circumstances such as illness or parental leave)
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • Good spoken and written English

Nice to have

  • Documented experience in PKPD modelling and simulation
  • Modelling in NONMEM and R
  • Scientific writing and international collaboration

Pay and location

Uppsala sets the salary individually; the advert gives no figure. The contract is two years, full time, from 1 November 2026.

How to apply

Apply through the official Uppsala University page. The closing date is 25 September 2026.

How to prepare for this application

  • Show NONMEM work: describe a population PK or PKPD model you built, and how you evaluated it.
  • Tumour growth models: any tumour-size or time-to-event modelling is directly relevant.
  • Know the pitfalls: be ready to discuss immortal time bias in exposure-response analyses.
  • Writing sample: the group values scientific writing, so point to a first-author paper.
  • Deadline: applications close on 25 September 2026.
