Job Description
Uppsala University’s Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology is hiring a postdoc to build genetically defined leukaemia cell-line models and study how specific TP53 alterations change cell behaviour and treatment response. The project combines CRISPR genome editing, functional cancer biology, drug-response profiling, high-content imaging (including Cell Painting for suspension cells) and machine learning for classifying TP53 variants.
At a glance

About the TP53 leukaemia postdoc
- Generate isogenic leukaemia cell lines with clinically relevant TP53 alterations by CRISPR/Cas, from wild-type to TP53-null
- Study effects on proliferation, fitness, cell cycle, apoptosis, DNA damage response and genomic stability
- Test sensitivity to chemotherapy, hypomethylating agents, venetoclax combinations, DNA-damaging agents, irradiation and targeted drugs
- Help develop Cell Painting for suspension cells and ML models for TP53 variants
- Lead planning within the TP53 work package and draft papers
The postdoc is supervised by the leukaemia/TP53 programme leaders and works with senior bioinformaticians, clinicians and molecular geneticists, with day-to-day co-supervision of master’s and PhD students. They are responsible for data quality, documentation and reproducibility in the work package. The department has about 400 staff across six research programmes linked to Uppsala University Hospital.
What Uppsala University is looking for
- A PhD in molecular, cell or cancer biology, haematology, genetics, genomics or a related field (within three years preferred)
- Mammalian cell culture, ideally haematopoietic or leukaemia models, with functional assays
- At least one first-author paper with quantitative or image-based analysis
- Independence, rigour and good communication
Nice to have
- NGS-based genomics or transcriptomics and multi-omics integration
