Job Description

The Rydén and Mejhert laboratory at Karolinska Institutet, which studies how human white fat cells contribute to type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia and atherosclerosis, is hiring a postdoctoral researcher. The project investigates how human adipose stem and progenitor cells form fat cells and organise tissue, building on the lab’s discovery of distinct progenitor populations and a model in which transplanted human cells form fat tissue in mice.

About the adipose tissue postdoc

  • Investigate lineage relationships between adipose progenitor populations and their contributions to tissue formation
  • Use cell culture, FACS, genetic manipulation and lineage tracing with in vivo transplantation and imaging
  • Validate single-cell and spatial transcriptomics findings with immunostaining and microscopy, with a dedicated bioinformatician
  • Lead experimental design, method development and interpretation, and build an independent research profile

What Karolinska Institutet is looking for

  • A PhD or equivalent by the employment decision (within three years is an advantage), in cell, stem cell or developmental biology or a related field
  • Hands-on mammalian cell culture and molecular techniques
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot experiments and manage a project
  • Good English

Nice to have

  • Flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • In vivo mouse models, especially cell transplantation or regeneration
  • CRISPR, stable labelling or lineage tracing
  • Immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis

Pay and location

KI sets salaries individually under its collective agreements; the advert gives no figure. Computational skills are not required, as analysis is done with a bioinformatician.
