Dr. Daniel Ferreira’s group in the Division of Clinical Geriatrics at Karolinska Institutet is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in fluid biomarkers for several projects on dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The work uses CSF and blood biomarker datasets, including core markers and proteomics, and links them with MRI and PET measures of neurodegeneration. It also covers harmonising multicentre data, managing the biosample repository, and setting up alpha-synuclein seed amplification assays with partner laboratories.

About the DLB biomarker postdoc
- Lead DLB projects within local, national and international collaborations
- Analyse biofluid biomarker datasets, including core markers and proteomics, and integrate them with cortical thickness, brain volume and hypometabolism measures
- Harmonise multicentre biomarker data, build and maintain research databases, and manage the biosample repository for local cohorts
- Help set up and optimise seed amplification assays with collaborating laboratories
- Apply for funding, coordinate studies involving doctoral and master’s students, and teach and supervise
What Karolinska Institutet is looking for
- A PhD in biochemistry, biology, neuroscience or medicine by the employment decision (a PhD within the last three years is an advantage)
- Research experience with fluid biomarkers in ageing or neurodegenerative disease, including handling plasma and CSF, developing assays and analysing molecular data
- Experience with established biomarkers and discovery approaches such as proteomics
- Documented experience harmonising multicentre datasets and managing clinical cohort databases and biobanks
- Strong statistical skills, a publication record, and ability to lead projects independently
Nice to have
- MRI and FDG-PET experience in DLB
- Multimodal integration of fluid biomarkers and imaging
- International consortium experience and success in securing research funding
