Arc Institute’s Zhou Lab is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in machine learning for genomics, combining high-throughput single-cell multiomics with generative AI for DNA sequence, gene regulation and perturbation modelling, and applying the models to genome mining, molecular tools and new therapeutic approaches.

About the Zhou Lab postdoc

• Train and evaluate state-of-the-art machine learning models for genomics, using approaches such as new architectures and interpretability techniques
• Design, run and analyse experiments that apply the models
• Collaborate with postdocs, students and staff on model development and data analysis, and mentor junior colleagues
• Publish, present at conferences and take part in Arc-wide activities

The lab works closely with experimental biologists and contributes to Arc-wide machine learning efforts such as the Virtual Cell Initiative, so models can be tested in the lab rather than only on benchmarks.

What Arc Institute is looking for

• A doctorate (MD or PhD) in computer science, machine learning, computational biology, bioinformatics or genetics/genomics
• A strong understanding of modern deep learning, computational biology and genetics
• Familiarity with recent work on DNA sequence-to-function models, genome language models and single-cell foundation models
• Excellent communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Pay and location

Arc lists a minimum base salary of US$80,000 a year for its postdocs, set by months of relevant postdoctoral experience. The role is based in Palo Alto.
