Job Description
Asst. Prof. Anna Marseglia’s team, part of the Westman neuroimaging group in Karolinska Institutet’s Division of Clinical Geriatrics, is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to find molecular fingerprints of vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) and of resilience against it. The work centres on proteomic data integrated with neuroimaging, clinical, lifestyle and genetic data from large longitudinal cohorts, including the Gothenburg H70 Birth Cohort studies and UK Biobank, using machine learning and longitudinal statistics.

About the VCID proteomics postdoc
- Lead proteomic analysis: quality control, normalisation and identification of molecular signatures
- Integrate proteomics with neuroimaging, clinical and health-behaviour data
- Apply clustering, dimensionality reduction, supervised and unsupervised machine learning and longitudinal models
- Help apply for access to further cohorts, and develop multi-omics pipelines for the group
- Write papers, present results, and possibly supervise, teach and write grants

What Karolinska Institutet is looking for
- A PhD in clinical neuroscience, biostatistics or a related field, focused on neuroimaging and proteomics in ageing
- A solid publication record including first-author papers
- Hands-on proteomics analysis (preprocessing, normalisation, pathway analysis, biomarker discovery)
- Machine learning on high-dimensional biological data, longitudinal analysis and large datasets
- Applied research in neurodegeneration, cerebrovascular disease or dementia, epidemiological training, strong R skills and excellent English
Nice to have
- Integrating omics with clinical or imaging data, ideally small vessel disease markers
- Experience with UK Biobank and its Research Analysis Platform
- Interest in translational research and biomarker development
Pay and location
KI sets salaries individually under its collective agreements; the advert gives no figure. The post is full time for two years.
