Job Description

The Stagkourakis Lab at SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institutet’s Department of Neuroscience is recruiting a highly independent postdoc (scholarship) in systems neuroscience. The lab studies how the brain controls survival behaviours such as aggression, fear and feeding, using large-scale neural recordings, advanced imaging, causal perturbations and quantitative analysis in freely moving mice. The post is for people who can work at a high experimental level from day one.

About the systems neuroscience postdoc

• Run systems neuroscience projects in freely moving mice
• Combine behaviour with large-scale recordings (silicon probes, miniscope or two-photon imaging)
• Build, maintain and synchronise complex experimental setups
• Analyse large datasets in MATLAB or Python, including machine learning

Who can hold a KI postdoc scholarship

KI’s scholarships are for foreign researchers: people living in another country who come to Sweden to do all or part of their postdoctoral training at KI. Anyone resident in Sweden, or who did any part of their academic education at KI or another Swedish institution, cannot be considered. Scholarships can be held for at most two years within the four years after the doctorate.

What Karolinska Institutet is looking for

• Hands-on experience in at least one of: stereotaxic surgery in mice, large-scale in vivo electrophysiology (for example Neuropixels), in vivo imaging, or RNA/spatial sequencing, with familiarity with the others
• Substantial practical experience in stereotaxic surgery combined with recording or imaging (the advert says others will not be competitive)
• A doctorate, and eligibility for a KI scholarship (see below)

Nice to have

• Custom behavioural paradigms and hardware/software synchronisation (Arduino, Bonsai, DataJoint)
• Machine learning for large datasets
• scRNA sequencing, non-traditional animal models
