Job Description

This fibre optic sensor project associate job in Kolkata is at CSIR-CGCRI. The project uses fibre-optic sensors to monitor the health of composite pressure vessels in real time. Email your application by 12 October 2026. The walk-in interview is on 14 October 2026.

At a glance

  • Post: Project Associate-I (PAT-I), 1 post, Advt. No. 52/2627/FOPD/MMP065202/NB, post code 52/2627/01
  • Where: CSIR-CGCRI, Jadavpur, Kolkata
  • Pay: ₹31,000 + HRA with NET/GATE or equivalent; ₹25,000 + HRA for others
  • Duration: 1 year at first, extendable up to 31 March 2028 if funds allow
  • Apply by: Email by 12 October 2026; walk-in interview 14 October 2026 from 11:00 am

The project number is MMP065202, under CSIR’s Hydrogen Technology Phase-II programme. Its title is “Fiber optic sensors for real-time health monitoring of the composite pressure vessel”. The advertisement is for one post.

About the fibre optic sensor project

  • Help develop fibre-optic sensors that track strain or damage in composite pressure vessels
  • Handle electronic and optoelectronic instruments, or mechanical design for sensor mounting
  • Work with data acquisition systems that read the sensors in real time

The advertisement names the project but does not list daily duties. The tasks above follow from the project title and the desirable skills.

Why this role matters

Hydrogen is stored at very high pressure in composite tanks. A crack that grows unseen is a real safety risk. Optical fibres can sit inside the tank wall and report strain all the time, without sparks or electrical wiring.

Eligibility

  • MSc in Electronics, Physics or Applied Physics, or
  • BE/BTech in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Desirable: hands-on work with electronic or optoelectronic instruments, or mechanical design useful for sensor development
  • Desirable: basic knowledge of fibre-optic sensors and data acquisition systems
  • Age limit 35 years on the interview date; 5 years relaxation for SC/ST, persons with disabilities and women; 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer)

Send the typed application form (hand-written forms are not accepted) with self-attested soft copies of every certificate. Candidates whose results are awaited are not eligible. If you already work on a project at CGCRI or elsewhere, attach a no-objection certificate from your project leader. Convert CGPA to a percentage using your university’s rule, and attach a self-attested copy of that rule. The post is for Indian citizens.

Pay and duration

  • ₹31,000 a month plus HRA, for candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC, ICAR or ICMR NET (including Lectureship or Assistant Professorship), GATE, or a national-level exam run by central departments such as DBT or DST
  • ₹25,000 a month plus HRA for other candidates (the advertisement labels this line (ii) but refers back to “(a) above”)
  • Tenure: 1 year at first, extendable up to 31 March 2028 depending on funds

How to apply

Fill in the CGCRI application form for project fellows (Word file). Type it. Email it with self-attested copies of your documents to recruitment.cgcri@csir.res.in by 12 October 2026. Report at least one hour before the 11:00 am interview with original documents. Late arrivals will not be let in.

Key dates

  • Last date for email applications: 12 October 2026
  • Walk-in interview: 14 October 2026 from 11:00 am at CSIR-CGCRI, Kolkata (report one hour early)

Please read the official CSIR-CGCRI advertisement (Advt. No. 52/2627) before applying, and browse more research assistant jobs on ResearchJobs.in.

How to prepare for this application

  • Revise fibre Bragg gratings: how strain and temperature shift the Bragg wavelength
  • Know how an interrogator reads many sensors on one fibre
  • Read about type III and type IV composite hydrogen tanks and why they need health monitoring
  • Be ready to explain a data acquisition setup you used, with sampling rate and noise
  • Mechanical graduates: prepare to talk about embedding or bonding sensors on composite parts
