About the IC design project scientist posts at CSIR-CEERI
- Work in the integrated circuit design flow on a capacity-building project
- Areas named in the ad: hardware accelerators, sensor interface circuits and analog design
- Use HDLs and EDA tools such as Cadence and Synopsys
The ad lists the preferred experience. It does not list duties; the points above follow that experience.
Why this role matters
India’s semiconductor mission needs many more chip designers. CEERI is one of the oldest public labs in the field. These posts pay well for project jobs and are open to experienced engineers up to 55.
Eligibility
- Project Scientist-I: a doctoral degree in science, or a Master’s degree in engineering or technology
- Project Scientist-II: the same degrees, plus three years of R&D in industry, academic institutions or S&T bodies
- Preferred for both: IC design flow, hardware accelerators, sensor interface circuits, analog design, HDLs, and EDA tools such as Cadence and Synopsys
- Upper age limit: 55 years
Each engagement starts for six months, or until the project ends, and can be extended in six-month steps. Total time as project staff across CSIR labs cannot exceed six years. Anyone who has already served six years is not eligible. Age is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD/women and 3 years for OBC. Interviews are online on MS Teams for shortlisted candidates. AcSIR Ph.D. students who hold a fellowship cannot apply.
Pay and duration
- Project Scientist-I: ₹77,000 a month
- Project Scientist-II: ₹92,000 a month
- HRA as per CSIR rules, if project funds allow
- Six months to start, extended in six-month steps
How to apply

How to prepare for this application
- Walk through a full flow: be ready to explain RTL to GDSII, with the tools you used at each step.
- Revise analog basics: op-amp design, biasing, noise and matching for sensor interfaces.
- Bring an accelerator example: a small hardware accelerator in Verilog or VHDL, with timing and area numbers.
- Know the EDA tools: Cadence Virtuoso and Genus, or Synopsys Design Compiler, at a hands-on level.
- Think about teaching: the project is about skilling, so show you can explain chip design to others.
