Job Description

This JRF in biomedical engineering at CSIR-CEERI Pilani models drug-induced liver injury on a high-throughput organ-on-chip device. The chip has built-in electrochemical sensing. Apply online by 2 November 2026.

At a glance

  • Post: Junior Research Fellow (JRF), one post (post code 3415)
  • Where: Intelligent Instrumentation Research Group (IIRG), CSIR-CEERI, Pilani
  • Project: GAP-6226
  • Fellowship: ₹37,000 a month, plus HRA
  • Age limit: 30 years for JRF
  • Duration: Six months to start, extendable
  • Apply by: 2 November 2026, 5 pm, online

The advertisement is PF-09/2026, dated 16 October 2026. The project is “Modelling Drug-Induced liver injury (DILI) in high throughput organ on chip device with integrated electrochemical system”. If no JRF is found, the ad says CEERI may hire a Project Associate-I or II.

About the organ-on-chip JRF at CSIR-CEERI

  • Work on a high-throughput organ-on-chip device that models drug-induced liver injury
  • Help build and test the electrochemical sensing on the chip
  • Join the electronics and instrumentation side of a bio-device project

The ad gives the project title and the qualifications. It does not list duties; the points above follow the title.

Why this role matters

Most drugs that fail late fail because of liver damage. Chips that copy liver tissue can catch this early and cut animal testing. Engineers who can add sensors to these chips are rare in India.

Eligibility

  • A graduate or postgraduate degree (B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical, Electrical and Electronics, ECE, Electronics and Instrumentation, Computer Science or an equivalent subject
  • Selection through CSIR-UGC NET (lectureship counts) or GATE, or a national exam run by DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IITs, IISc, IISERs, NISER and similar bodies
  • Upper age limit for JRF: 30 years, with 5 years’ relaxation for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, third gender candidates and women, as printed in the table
  • Fallback: Project Associate-I needs a B.E./B.Tech. in the same subjects; Project Associate-II needs that plus two years of R&D, or a Master’s in these subjects

Each engagement starts for six months, or until the project ends, and can be extended in six-month steps. Total time as project staff across CSIR labs cannot exceed six years. Anyone who has already served six years is not eligible. Age is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD/women and 3 years for OBC. Interviews are online on MS Teams for shortlisted candidates. AcSIR Ph.D. students who hold a fellowship cannot apply.

Pay and duration

  • JRF: ₹37,000 a month, plus HRA under ANRF/OM/N-01/2024
  • If hired instead: Project Associate-I ₹30,000, Project Associate-II ₹33,000
  • Six months to start, extended in six-month steps

How to apply

Apply online through CEERI’s project staff recruitment portal, linked from the CEERI project staff page. Choose post code 3415. Upload scans of your 10th and 12th certificates, degrees, date-of-birth proof, any category certificate, NET or GATE proof, and experience certificates where needed. Print the form after you submit. The last date is 2 November 2026, 5 pm. Read the Advertisement PF-09/2026 (PDF) first. For queries, the ad gives temp.recruitment.ceeri@csir.res.in.

How to prepare for this application

  • Learn organ-on-chip basics: microfluidic channels, cell culture on chips and why liver models matter in drug testing.
  • Revise electrochemistry for sensors: cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy and electrode design.
  • Know DILI in outline: how drugs like paracetamol harm liver cells and which markers show it.
  • Show instrument skills: potentiostats, PCB design, data acquisition or LabVIEW work all help.
  • Have your documents ready: the portal needs every certificate scanned, with your marks or CGPA visible.
