Job Description
IIT Delhi is hiring a Project Scientist in deep learning for semantic segmentation. The post is in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, New Delhi. Larsen & Toubro Precision Engineering & Systems, Mumbai, funds the project. A Junior Project Assistant (Tech.) post is open under the same advertisement.
At a glance
- Posts: Project Scientist (1) and Jr. Project Assistant (Tech.) (1)
- Where: Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi, New Delhi
- Pay: Project Scientist: ₹47,790 to ₹62,350 a month (a ten-step slab), plus HRA at 30%
- Duration: Contractual, renewed yearly, up to the end of the project (4 January 2028)
- Apply by: 21 October 2026, 5:00 pm, by email
The advertisement is IITD/IRD/265/2026, dated 5 October 2026. The project is “Semantic Segmentation” (RM00090N). The Principal Investigator is Prof. Chetan Arora of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
What the semantic segmentation Project Scientist works on
- Deep learning for semantic segmentation, the task named in the project title
- Work with deep neural networks for visual recognition, such as image classification, object detection and segmentation
- Work under the PI in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering
- The Jr. Project Assistant (Tech.) post supports the same project and suits a fresh BTech graduate
The advertisement gives the project title and the skills it wants. It does not list day-to-day duties. Two typos appear in it: the second post is printed as “Jr. Projech Assistant”, and one step of its pay slab reads “360030”.
Why this role matters
Segmentation labels every pixel in an image, so a machine knows exactly where each object starts and ends. Industrial inspection and robotics need that level of detail. This project is funded by an engineering company, so the work is aimed at a real use. You also get two years of applied deep learning research at IIT Delhi on your CV.
Eligibility
- Project Scientist: a BTech, BE or dual degree in CSE, Electronics, Chemical or Mechanical, with first class or equivalent
- Project Scientist: 2 years of relevant work experience in the field
- Desirable for both posts: solid theory and hands-on skill in modern machine learning and deep learning, and experience with deep networks for image classification, object detection or semantic segmentation
- Jr. Project Assistant (Tech.): a BTech or BE in Computer Science, Electronics or Mechanical, with first class or equivalent
- SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks
Only Indian nationals may apply. IIT Delhi may set higher criteria for shortlisting. Shortlisted names go up on the IRD website with the online interview details. Only shortlisted candidates are told about the interview. A retired government employee’s pay would be fixed under IRD norms.
Pay and duration
- Project Scientist: ₹47,790 to ₹62,350 a month (a ten-step slab), plus HRA at 30%
- Jr. Project Assistant (Tech.): a slab starting at ₹29,290 and rising to ₹38,220 a month, plus HRA at 30%
- Contract renewable yearly, or until the project ends on 4 January 2028, whichever is earlier
How to apply
Download Form No. IRD/REC-4 from the IIT Delhi IRD recruitment page. Fill it in with your marks or division and your work experience. Email it to the PI, Prof. Chetan Arora, at the address given in the advertisement. Put the advertisement number, IITD/IRD/265/2026, in the subject line.
