Job Description

Quandela is hiring a Quantum Algorithms and Resource Estimation Scientist into its ALPS team, to work out what fault-tolerant quantum algorithms would really cost to run on a photonic machine, and which ones are worth building towards.

At a glance

  • Position: Quantum Algorithms and Resource Estimation Scientist
  • Where: Massy, Paris-Saclay, France
  • Pay: Quandela does not state a salary; benefits listed include profit-sharing, a savings plan, full health cover, meal subsidies, transport and childcare support
  • Type: Full time, permanent
  • Apply by: open until filled; re-check before applying
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 16 October 2026)

About the quantum algorithms and resource estimation role at Quandela

  • Explore and evaluate fault-tolerant quantum algorithms and modern algorithmic primitives
  • Study approaches such as block encoding, quantum signal processing, quantum singular value transformation and Hamiltonian simulation
  • Carry out resource estimation studies to judge feasibility, scalability and cost
  • Adapt quantum algorithms to Quandela’s spin-photonic architecture
  • Work with the fault-tolerance, quantum information and architecture teams, and with academic and industrial partners
  • Track advances in fault-tolerant algorithms and resource estimation, and communicate results through reports, publications and conferences

This is a post-NISQ role: the emphasis is on fault-tolerant algorithms and honest accounting of the resources they need, feeding directly into Quandela’s technology roadmap. The posting does not give a closing date, so the role stays listed until it is filled. Re-check the official posting before you apply.

What Quandela is looking for

  • A PhD or postdoctoral research experience in physics, mathematics, computer science, quantum information or a closely related field
  • Experience with fault-tolerant algorithmic primitives such as block encoding, quantum signal processing, quantum singular value transformation, qubitisation or Hamiltonian simulation
  • Familiarity with resource estimation methods for fault-tolerant quantum computing
  • Experience with scientific programming, numerical simulation and algorithm implementation
  • The judgement to read the literature critically and pick out what is practically relevant
  • Fluent English; the posting states that French is not required

Nice to have

  • Experience with logical compilation, fault-tolerant software frameworks, resource estimation libraries or open-source quantum software
  • Experience in collaborative R&D projects with academic, institutional or industrial partners
  • Familiarity with photonic quantum computing architectures, which the posting welcomes but does not require

Pay and location

Quandela does not state a salary; benefits listed include profit-sharing, a savings plan, full health cover, meal subsidies, transport and childcare support

How to apply

Apply through the official Quandela job posting. Quandela’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 16 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Do a costing: pick an algorithm you know and work out its logical qubit and T-gate counts; that is the core skill being tested.
  • Know the primitives: block encoding, QSP and QSVT are named in the advertisement, so be able to explain them at a whiteboard.
  • Photonics is learnable: the posting says photonic experience is not required, so show instead that you adapt quickly to a new architecture.
  • Be sceptical in public: the role is partly about judging which claimed speed-ups survive contact with real resource counts.
  • Prepare a talk: the interview process includes presenting your previous research.

About Quandela

Quandela is a French deeptech company building photonic quantum computers, using semiconductor quantum dots as bright single-photon sources and photonic processors to run computations with light. Its own description puts the team at more than 140 people covering the full stack, from the emitters and chips through control electronics to software and applications, with machines reachable over the cloud and installed on customer sites.
