Job Description

PsiQuantum is hiring a Quantum Applications Architect in Brisbane to develop quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant machines and work out what it will take to run them on its photonic quantum computers.

At a glance

  • Role: Quantum Applications Architect
  • Where: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
  • Level: MSc, PhD or equivalent in physics, maths or computer science
  • Focus: fault-tolerant quantum algorithms and resource estimation
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 11 October 2026)

About the quantum applications architect role

  • Research and develop techniques for quantum algorithms tailored to fault-tolerant quantum computers
  • Design, develop and benchmark quantum applications and the tools needed to build them
  • Work with external partners and internal teams to instantiate, validate and optimise algorithms for use cases in areas such as the life sciences
  • Simulate and analyse the resources needed to run algorithms fault-tolerantly on photonic hardware
  • Co-optimise algorithms with the quantum architecture group

PsiQuantum builds its quantum computers from photons on silicon chips. Photonic qubits are naturally suited to networking and to fusion-based quantum computing, but they need error-correction schemes and algorithms designed around photon loss and the architecture’s building blocks, which is the kind of problem these roles work on.

What PsiQuantum is looking for

  • A graduate degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent) in physics, mathematics or computer science
  • Significant research experience in quantum algorithms, compilation, complexity or applications
  • Experience with algorithms or compilation using fault-tolerant gate sets is preferred
  • A results-driven approach, analytical problem solving, and the ability to work across teams, sites and time zones

Pay and location

PsiQuantum’s posting does not state a salary for this role. It is based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

How to apply

Apply through the official PsiQuantum job posting. PsiQuantum’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 11 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Fault-tolerant cost models: be ready to discuss T-counts, logical qubit counts and how architecture choices change algorithm cost.
  • One application in depth: pick an area such as chemistry or materials and know the quantum and classical state of the art.
  • Photonic specifics: read about fusion-based quantum computation so you can speak to how it differs from circuit-model assumptions.
  • Benchmarks: think about how you would show a quantum algorithm genuinely beats the best classical approach.
  • Collaboration: prepare an example of working with an external partner to define a problem.

About PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum was founded in 2016 with a single aim: to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum computers. Its architecture is based on silicon photonics, using high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including partners such as GlobalFoundries, to make the photonic chips its machines are built from.
