Job Description

Welinq is looking for a quantum hardware engineer for its Next-Generation Technology Team in Paris. You will help develop and optimise the company’s quantum hardware, with a strong focus on atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics, working with engineers and scientists to design, fabricate and characterise the quantum devices behind Welinq’s industry-grade quantum networking products. The role suits a cold-atom experimentalist who wants to move from academic research into building products.

At a glance

  • Role: Quantum Hardware Engineer
  • Team: Next-Generation Technology (architecture)
  • Location: Paris, France
  • Degree: PhD in quantum physics, quantum optics or a related field with an AMO focus
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)

What the role covers

  • Design and optimise quantum hardware components based on AMO physics, with Welinq’s engineers
  • Help fabricate, assemble and test Welinq’s quantum devices
  • Run experiments and analyse data on the performance and efficiency of quantum hardware
  • Troubleshoot hardware problems and propose improvements to overall system performance
  • Follow new research in quantum technology and AMO physics and add it to the team’s knowledge

What Welinq is looking for

  • A PhD in quantum physics, quantum optics or a related field, focused on AMO physics
  • A strong background in quantum mechanics, quantum optics and atomic physics
  • Experience with atom trapping, optical tweezers, single-atom imaging and coherent state preparation in optical traps
  • Experience moving atoms and preparing and reconfiguring atomic arrays, and with cold-atom laboratory experiments
  • Python, MATLAB or C++ for data analysis, simulation and automation
  • Good problem solving, teamwork, clear communication and professional English

How to prepare for this application

  • Prepare a short summary of the cold-atom apparatus you know best, and what you would change to make it product-grade.
  • Read up on how quantum processors can be linked by photons, and what hardware that needs.
  • Show examples of automation you added to an experiment.
  • Ask how the Next-Generation Technology Team splits work between research and product engineering.

About Welinq

Welinq is a Paris start-up building quantum networks that link quantum processors (QPUs) inside data centres, based on neutral-atom hardware and qubit–photon interfaces. In 2026 it announced collaborations with Pasqal, OVHcloud and NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform for networked and distributed quantum computing.
