Riverlane is hiring a Quantum Scientist in applied QEC in Cambridge, UK, to design and run quantum computing experiments with partners across the UK and Europe using Riverlane’s software and tools, and to help deploy error-correction solutions on real hardware.

About the applied QEC scientist role
- Work with partners across the UK and Europe to design and run quantum computing experiments using Riverlane’s software and tools
- Support the deployment of quantum applications and QEC solutions in partner environments
- Investigate experimental results, diagnose problems and work with research and product teams to fix them
- Contribute to internal research on quantum computing and QEC
- Present results at customer meetings, workshops and conferences
Every quantum computer makes errors far more often than a classical chip, so useful machines will need quantum error correction running continuously, with decoders fast enough to keep up with the hardware. Riverlane works on that layer for many hardware makers at once, which gives its researchers exposure to several qubit technologies.
What Riverlane is looking for
- A PhD in physics, experimental physics, computer science, engineering or a related field
- Research experience in quantum computing, in academia or industry
- Experience designing, running and analysing experiments or simulations with research-grade tools
- Interest in QEC and in applying research in real settings, plus comfort working with customers and partners
- Clear communication, teamwork across disciplines, and willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and Europe
Nice to have
- Experience in QEC research
Pay and location
Riverlane lists a salary of £70,000–108,000, depending on experience. The role is based in Cambridge, UK, with occasional travel. Riverlane’s UK package includes an annual bonus plan, private medical and life insurance, a contributory pension, equity, and 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
