Job Description
A*STAR is hiring a Research Engineer to develop AI-driven modelling and simulation for advanced photonics and semiconductor applications, at the meeting point of physics-based simulation, AI, inverse design and design for manufacturing. Topics include photonic devices, power electronics and lithography–etch optical proximity correction, under Singapore’s NSTIC and IAIC programmes. A bachelor’s or master’s qualifies.
At a glance
- Post: Research Engineer, Semiconductor, IAIC (req. 2687)
- Programmes: NSTIC and IAIC
- Posted: 17 July 2026
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What the post involves
- Develop physics-guided AI and ML models for photonic devices and semiconductor processes
- Run electromagnetic, optical, lithography, etch and device simulations with FDTD, FEM, RCWA and TCAD
- Build AI-assisted inverse-design workflows for photonic structures
- Support lithography–etch OPC: layout processing, prediction, etch-bias modelling and SEM data analysis
- Work with process and fab teams to reach manufacturable designs
Why this post matters
Designing photonic chips and lithography masks increasingly relies on AI to search huge design spaces that simulations alone cannot cover. This post combines those skills with real fabrication in Singapore’s semiconductor programmes, and it is open to master’s graduates.
What A*STAR is looking for
- A bachelor’s or master’s in electrical engineering, physics, photonics, materials science, mechanical engineering or a related field
- Simulation experience with tools such as FDTD, FEM or TCAD
- Programming for ML workflows
Nice to have
- Inverse design or OPC experience
Pay and location
A*STAR does not state a salary in this advertisement; research staff pay in Singapore follows the institution’s own scales and depends on qualifications and experience.
How to apply
Apply through the official A*STAR job posting. A*STAR’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.
