Amazon’s India ReCommerce business is hiring a senior applied scientist in Bengaluru to build the machine learning behind recovering value from returned products. The problems include predicting whether a returned unit can be resold without a human check, detecting damage and fraud inside sealed packaging from images, routing each unit to its best recovery path, and pricing recovered stock dynamically, both with India-first models and by adapting worldwide models to India’s data.

About the ReCommerce science role
- Build models for automated returns grading from structured and unstructured signals
- Develop computer vision for defect detection, condition assessment and fraud, including inside sealed packaging
- Build disposition-prediction and routing models (resale, repair, liquidation, donation, recycling)
- Develop pricing and recovery optimisation models
- Own problems end to end with engineering, product and operations
What Amazon is looking for
- At least 6 years of building machine learning models for business applications
- A PhD or a master’s degree
- Programming in Java, C++, Python or a related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Nice to have
- Modelling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLlib, MXNet, TensorFlow, NumPy and SciPy
- Large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop and Spark
