Senior Lecturer in Technical GIS (Geospatial AI, Web GIS and 3D Geodata) at Lund University

Job Description

Lund University’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (MGeo) is hiring a permanent senior lecturer in technical GIS. The research is in geographic information science with an emphasis on its technical side, and the teaching covers geographic databases, web GIS, GIS algorithms and data structures, geospatial AI (GeoAI) and collecting and analysing 3D geodata. Teaching normally takes 25 to 35% of the post, and resources equal to a PhD student position come with it to help start a research group.

Language and application format

About MGeo

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences studies Earth’s past, present and future climate and environment, including how people interact with the natural world. Its fields range from quaternary science, geology and physical geography to remote sensing, GIS and computational science for health and environment.

What LU is looking for

• A PhD in GIS, geographic information science, geoinformatics, engineering surveying, computer science, information systems or a related field
• Strong publications in technical GIS and a record of winning competitive funding and leading projects
• Advanced-level GIS teaching experience, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and supervision of undergraduates and PhD students
• Applying GIS with outside partners in areas such as climate, urban planning, health or disaster management
• Research or teaching experience outside Lund University
• Very good English; five weeks of teaching training or equivalent (or completed within two years)

Pay and location

Lund University sets salaries individually and paid monthly; the advert gives no figure. The post is permanent and full time in Lund.
